In short

Effective October 31, 2026. Kaido records your drives so you can see every road you've driven. There's no Kaido account. Your drives are kept on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. Kaido has no ads and no analytics trackers, and your data is never sold.

The only part of Kaido other people can see is Friends, which is optional. The Friends section lists exactly what it shares.

Who buys the data?

Nobody. We don't sell, rent or trade your data, and we don't share it with advertisers, data brokers or insurance companies.

There's also nothing for us to sell. Kaido has no server of its own holding your drives. They live on your iPhone and in your iCloud account, which is run by Apple and which we can't open.

What Kaido stores

  • Your drives: the GPS route, times, distances, speeds and the places you passed through.
  • Your cars: make, model, year, color, photos, odometer readings, notes, and the Bluetooth or CarPlay connection you link to a car so Kaido can tell which car you're in.
  • Your settings, milestones and the places you've lit up.

All of this is saved on your iPhone. If iCloud is on, it is also synced through your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it follows you to a new iPhone. We can't see it.

What Kaido asks your iPhone for

Location, Always
To record drives on its own, including with the app closed. Used only to build your drive history, map and stats.
Motion and fitness
To notice when you start and stop driving.
Notifications
To tell you about your drives. You can turn them off in Settings.
Camera
Only when you use it: to scan a VIN or a document, read your odometer, or film a clip with a drive drawn over it. Scans are read on your iPhone.
Photos
Only the photos and videos you pick, for your cars, your profile and drive clips, and to save posters you make.

You can change any of these in the Settings app at any time.

Friends

Friends is optional. If you join, Kaido saves a profile to Kaido's shared CloudKit database (run by Apple), where other Kaido users can read it. Because it's shared, we can see it too. Your profile contains:

  • The username and photo you choose, your country and your invite code.
  • Your cars: name, color and total miles for each, and which one is your main car.
  • Totals: miles this week, this month and overall, new miles, new counties and your longest trip this week.
  • Which counties and states you've driven in, as a list of names. Not the routes.
  • Friend requests you send.
  • Shared rides, only if you turn on Share rides with friends (it starts off): your latest drive and the drive you pin, each with its title, date, distance, time, average and top speed, car and full route.
  • A pinned car, only if you pin one: its name, details, color, miles, photo and the routes of its drives.

Turn off Profile › Share rides with friends to stop sharing rides. Unpin a car to stop sharing it. Remove everything with Profile › Delete my Friends profile. Your username and friend list are also kept in your own iCloud so they survive a new phone.

Posters and videos you share

Posters, videos and clips you make stay on your iPhone until you share or save them. They show the route of that drive. Turn off Show start & end before sharing to cut the first and last part of the route, so the image doesn't point to your home.

Services Kaido contacts

  • Apple: Maps for map tiles, place names and directions, and CloudKit for iCloud sync and Friends.
  • NHTSA vPIC (U.S. Department of Transportation): when you scan or type a VIN, the VIN is sent to look up the make and model.
  • OpenStreetMap (the Overpass API at overpass-api.de, or the overpass.private.coffee mirror when that one is busy): Kaido downloads street data around your drives to light up the streets you've driven and to plan new routes for you.
  • OpenFreeMap: map tiles for Kaido's own map styles.
  • geoBoundaries (on GitHub): public outlines of the regions you drive in.
  • flagcdn.com: flag pictures for the countries you've driven in.

These requests carry no account or personal details. Like any web request, they show your device's IP address to that service, and street and tile requests show the general area being looked at. These Overpass servers are run by separate volunteer groups. If you choose to open a route in Apple Maps or Google Maps, that app's own privacy policy applies.

Apple, TestFlight and support

Kaido is in beta on Apple's TestFlight. If you allow it in your iPhone's settings, Apple shares crash reports and basic usage numbers with us. Feedback and screenshots you send through TestFlight reach us too. None of this includes your drives.

If you email us, or use Send feedback in the app, we get what you write and the details the email shows before you send it, such as the app version. We use it only to answer you and fix Kaido.

No ads, no trackers

Kaido contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking code. It doesn't follow you across other apps or websites, and it doesn't build a profile of you for anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete drives and cars inside the app. To remove everything, delete the app, then remove Kaido's data in Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage. Delete your Friends profile in the app, or email us and we'll remove it.

Children

Kaido is made for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 13.

Who is responsible, and your rights

Kaido is made by Taiki Ishikawa, an individual developer based in Japan, who is responsible for the data described here. Contact: taikishik@gmail.com.

Kaido uses your data only to run the features you use. Your drives, cars and settings stay in your own iCloud, which we can't open. Your Friends profile is used because you chose to join Friends.

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete the Friends data we can reach, and you can ask us to stop using it. Email us and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. We don't sell or share personal data for advertising, as California and other US laws define it.

Apple stores CloudKit data, and it may be kept in countries other than yours, including the United States.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions or deletion requests: taikishik@gmail.com.
